Big Trade Union Meeting in Athens Decides New General Strike

The class unions of Athens held a massive meeting of Trade Union cadres from all sectors to discuss the response of the unions to the Government’s bill to abolish the 8hour work day. The trade unions decided to hold a big demonstration in Athens the day after the bill is made public, under the demand: “The Bill Not to be submitted, to be withdrawn immediately.” But also the continuation with a large nationwide general strike at a time that will be decided, depending on developments. The meeting highlighted both the experience from the organization of the May Day strike in big workplaces, the ability to embrace this action with new unions, as well as the militant content of the struggle.
