WFTU statement on the factory blast in Thailand

Α catastrophic fire started in the Ming Dih Chemical Co factory complex which makes expandable polystyrene foam, in Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan, in Thailand, after an explosion in the early hours of Monday.  According to the information, a  rescue worker was killed, 40 people were injured, more than 80,000 people have been affected and 70 houses were damaged. We express our deep and sincere condolences to the family and colleagues of the rescue worker who died. Our thoughts are with the affected people. The competent authorities must provide secure accommodation and all the essentials to the population of the area, as well as the full compensation.  The World Federation of Trade Unions, on behalf of its 105 million workers from 133 countries of the 5 continents, demands investigation of the conditions of the accident and punishment of the responsible.
