WFTU Statement on the famine in Tigray Region

Recent fighting in the Tigray region of Ethiopia has resulted in a famine, according to UN officials who have warned the Security Council that more than 400,000 people in Ethiopia’s Tigray are now in famine and that there was a risk of more clashes in the region despite a unilateral ceasefire by the federal government. On the other hand Ethiopia is rich in mineral and natural resources and this is the real reason why the imperialists are intervening in its land. Despite all these riches, the workers of the country are dying of starvation and famine, while they could live with dignity and could have decent homes, health and education for them and their families, if the riches didn’t belong to the capitalists and their imperialistic unions.
