PAME expresses its solidarity with the Italian trade union USB and the Italian workers who are fighting for their rights, against the imperialist war and suffering the attack and repression of Governments and imperialist organizations.
The USB denounced the provocative event against the Union that was set up yesterday in Rome, with the police raiding the USB headquarters after “anonymous” but very detailed complaints about a hidden weapon, which was finally “discovered” submerged in a water toilet cistern!
According to the Union, just before 11 yesterday morning, carabinieri appeared at the USB headquarters in Rome, claiming that they were conducting a search for weapons, based on an “anonymous” telephone complaint.
The carabinieri entered the offices of USB without even a warrant, taking advantage of a corresponding opportunity given to them by the reactionary legislation of the Italian state. A “targeted” inspection of the offices followed, as the “anonymous informant” indicated to them exactly where they would look, in which cistern and in which toilet, of those intended for the public. A gun was found there, wrapped in cellophane and submerged in water …
USB responded with an immediate, massive press conference denouncing the provocation with the slogan “The only weapons USB uses are strikes, demands, demonstrations and struggles. We leave the weapons to those who love them, starting with the solid majority that fuels the war in Ukraine. “
At the same time, USB denounced the timing of this staged provocative incident, in the midst of the Union’s anti-war activities, such as the March 19 mobilization at Pisa Airport, where was attempted to send military equipment to Ukraine as “Humanitarian aid”, the strike and the protest in the port of Genoa on March 31, on the occasion of the arrival of the Saudi ship “Bahri”, which was loaded with American weapons.
The USB union initially noted that the union’s headquarters are open to the public on a daily basis, as are all USB offices. Definitely the last place to hide anything, let alone weapons. While also the union pointed out that the same media that systematically silence the militant initiatives of USB and the workers, now in a short time rushed to reproduce the directed “news” with the “hidden weapon” …
The international workers movement has extensive experience with attacks, provocations and the suppression of state and imperialist mechanisms. In Greece, too, during the great General Strike on April 6, by order of the Government, 8 protesters who took part in the mobilizations against the involvement of Greece in the imperialist war, were violently arrested.
We express our solidarity with the workers of Italy and the USB in their struggle against the imperialist war. We denounce the state repression, the tactics and mechanisms against the trade union organization and the action of the workers who are fighting against imperialism, for the rights and the life of the working class.
