WFTU statement on the 8th anniversary of the Soma Massacre

Today marks the 8th anniversary of the Soma Massacre in which 301 mine workers were killed due to the lack of proper job security measures that should have been taken by the employers in Soma Mines.
The WFTU has always shown solidarity with the families of the victims and monitored the legal process by forming a committee as well as taking a quick action to protest the occupational crime and organizing a solidarity conference titled “We will not forget nor forgive” in Turkey in 2014.
On the 8th Anniversary of the Soma Massacre, Ali Rıza Küçükosmanoğlu, Vice President of the WFTU attended the demonstration organized by Bağımsız Maden İş, a WFTU affiliate Union centered in Soma.
He made a speech on behalf of the WFTU and said that the World Federation of Trade Unions commemorated the victims of the Soma Massacre with great respect.  He also underlined the fact that the WFTU continued the struggle of the working class in every corner of the world for better and dignified working conditions.
