Hadash and Arab Parties Reach Deal to Run on Unified Slate in Knesset Election

Hadash and two Arab parties, Balad and Ta’al, competing in the November 1 Knesset election have reached an agreement to run on a joint ticket – the Joint List. In the early hours of Wednesday morning, Ta’al announced that it would accept the proposed division of seats in parliament that was agreed upon by the other two members of the alliance, Hadash and Balad. According to the agreement, Balad will be given the third and sixth places on the joint slate’s list of candidates, while Ta’al will get places two and eight.

“The Joint List – the answer to racism”

The three parties said that they “continue to work together with the aim of increasing voter participation in Arab society and among the Jewish democratic forces, and to stop the fascist right from coming to power.” They also agree on the terms under which the joint slate would support a prime ministerial candidate. A pledge to engage in negotiations with the PLO in order to end the occupation and establish a Palestinian state is said to be a primary condition. Changing policies that discriminate against Israel’s over two million Arab-Palestinian citizens and annulling any laws that facilitate such discrimination, such as the racist Nation-State Law, are the other conditions.

The parties agreed that Ayman Odeh (Hadash) would continue to lead the alliance, followed by Ahmad Tibi (Ta’al), Sami Abou Shahadeh (Balad), Aida Touma-Sliman (Hadash), Ofer Cassif (Hadash) and Mtanes Shehadeh (Balad).
