Statement of the WFTU Regional Office in the Middle East on the International Day of Peace

Dear comrades The first of September represents the International Day of Peace, which was called by the World Federation of Trade Unions to be a global symbol in which we all celebrate peace and call for it, because the first victims of all wars, economic sieges and all arbitrary unilateral imperialist measures are the workers and they are the weakest sides of any unrest.

The Arab region and the Middle East are witnessing an escalating Israeli aggression against Syria, Palestine and Lebanon. The successive Israeli military strikes that took place yesterday against Aleppo International Airport and Damascus International Airport in Syria confirm the Israeli government’s move away from the peace approach that it has always praised. This flagrant violation of the Charter of the United Nations and the encroachment on the territory of a sovereign state would not have taken place without the unlimited American support for the usurping Zionist entity.

The continuous Israeli attacks on our brothers in Palestine and the continued detention of Palestinian heroes in Israeli prisons send a message to the whole world that the Israeli apartheid regime represents the greatest danger to the world peace. We in the World Federation of Trade Unions call upon the honorable and free people of the world to stand firmly against the practices of the Israeli occupation in Palestine, Syria and Lebanon and to expose its practices that threaten the stability of the region and the world. Long live the International Day of Peace Long live WFTU
