Victory for democracy in Brazil

The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) salutes Brazilian democratic and progressive forces for the victory of Lula da Silva in the presidential elections on Sunday, October 30.

This result opens favourable prospects for materialising progress in rights, reducing inequalities and social injustices, defending democracy, protecting the environment, as well as boosting regional cooperation processes in Latin America and the Caribbean, which are
an important contribution to curbing the forces of interference, aggression and war and building a region and world of peace, sovereignty, development, social progress and cooperation.

Aware that this victory marks a new stage that will not be exempt from hurdles and difficulties, the CPPC reaffirms its commitment to continue – as it has always – its action and solidarity mobilisation with the Brazilian people and their struggle in defence of democracy,
national sovereignty, peace.
