Only Israel Joins US against UN Call to End the Embargo on Cuba

For the 30th consecutive time, the United Nations General Assembly demanded last week that the United States end its economic embargo against Cuba. At its headquarters in New York, the UNGA overwhelming approved a resolution that it has passed each year since 1992 urging the United States to drop the six-decade-long blockade it enforces against the Caribbean nation.

On Thursday, 185 nations voted in favor of the Cuban resolution, two members (the United States and Israel) voted against it, and two abstained (Ukraine and Brazil).

The Communist Party of Israel (CPI) condemned the aggressive Israeli official position against Cuba and called for the support of the Cuban people in their struggle to force the imperialist United States administration to lift its unilateral and illegal blockade against Cuba. The CPI statement “condemned Israel’s government and its vicious policy.”

The CPI statement elaborated: “The US blockade against Cuba was adopted unilaterally in the 1960s. The blockade is a criminal one as it violates international law, particularly the right of the Cuban people to self-determination.” Despite the intensification of the illegal blockade, the Cuban people continue to defend their nation’s right to democratic national sovereignty. They have overwhelmingly rejected all kinds of imperialist interference in their country’s domestic affairs.
