SACP congratulates Workers Party of Brazil and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his electoral victory

Monday, 31 October 2022: The South African Communist Party (SACP) congratulates the Workers Party of Brazil and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his electoral victory in the latest presidential elections.

The SACP also congratulates the Brazilian working-class for their gallant efforts to unite themselves against imperialist assault which has destabilised their country.

The most popular president in Brazilian history, Lula, faced trumped-up charges, against which he fought bravely. Those charges ultimately did not stand, as they were quashed for having no evidence. Lula’s electoral victory is therefore also a victory against that manipulation of justice. His election marks an important step towards the unity of the Brazilian people in their quest for self-determination.

The working-class in Brazil, as well as poor peasants, has suffered greatly due to right-wing attacks. Consequently, the people were ravaged by COVID-19 while the right-wing, towing the Donal Trump era line, remained in denial of the devastating effects of the virus. Due to the denialism, Brazil was among the most affected by COVID-19.

The SACP calls for wider unity of the working-class across the world to build a fortress against imperialist aggression and deepen the leftwards momentum.
