The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) repudiates the worsening of the illegal US blockade against the people of Venezuela and its Bolivarian Revolution, announced by the US/ Donald Trump Administration.

The CPPC defends the legitimate right of the peoples to sovereignly decide their path of development - a right enshrined in the UN Charter and International Law - a long-standing position that is all the more important to restate at a time when there is an increasing open and blatant threat, with pressure, blackmail, blockade and interference with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, which aims to hit and worsen the living conditions of its people.

What the US Administration and the Venezuelan oligarchy do not forgive is the resilience of a progressive, sovereign, democratic process that has put Venezuela's immense wealth at the service of the economic, social and cultural development of the Venezuelan people, which has helped to build paths of cooperation between countries of Latin America, mutually advantageous and free from the grip of the US, which affirmed its determination to follow a path freely chosen by the Venezuelan people, without foreign interference or meddling..

Taking into account the great challenges and problems facing the Bolivarian Revolution and the Venezuelan people, we must also bear in mind the profound transformations that have taken place in Venezuela in almost 20 years, which, despite blockades and interferences of all kinds, has relocated 2.8 million families, eradicated illiteracy, has one of the highest university attendance rates in the world, made advances in healthcare, a recognition of the rights of indigenous peoples, a widely participated democratic regime.

Unacceptably, the Portuguese Government has chosen the side of the aggressor, of interference, of illegality and of the right-wing forces, against the rights and interests of the Venezuelan people and the important Portuguese community, of sovereignty, peace and International Law.

Faced with the boycott and the worsening of the unrelenting economic and financial blockade, in the face of the attempt of political and diplomatic isolation of Venezuela, whose aim is to hit the economy of this country and to harm the living conditions of the Venezuelan people, those who defend peace and the right of every people to define, without foreign interference, their future, have to demand an end to boycott and economic blockade, because it is their end that serves the interests of the Venezuelan people and the Portuguese community living in Venezuela.

Faced with the threat of military intervention, destabilization, a huge foreign aggression that the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and its people are victims of, those who defend peace and the right of every people to define their future free from external interference, have to be solidary with the Bolivarian Revolution and the Venezuelan people who are fighting for their sovereignty, their right to development and social progress.

The CPPC calls on all peace lovers to demand an end to the US/Donald Trump Administration’s blockade of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

In Lisbon - No to the Blockade! Respect for the sovereignty of Venezuela!

The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation participated last August 10 in a public act of repudiation of the new US aggression measures against the Venezuelan people.

The Trump administration, faced with several failed coup attempts, which it promoted and supported, is betting on aggravating the sanctions and consequent suffering of the Venezuelan people, in order to try to overthrow the legitimate government of Nicolas Maduro, and seeking to defeat the resilience of a sovereign, democratic and progressive process, that has put Venezuela's immense wealth at the service of the economic, social and cultural development of the Venezuelan people. A process which has helped to build paths of mutually advantageous cooperation between Latin American countries, free from USA's grip. A process that affirmed its determination to follow a path freely chosen by the Venezuelan people, without outside interference.

In the initiative, CPPC saluted the resistance of the Venezuelan people in defense of its Bolivarian Revolution, denouncing the illegal actions of the US Administration and the shameful subservience that the Portuguese Government has shown to them.
