34 new positive cases of COVID-19 were detected in Venezuela in the last 24 hours, bringing the number of infections to 1,211.

Of the new infected, 33 belong to international infections: 21 from Brazil and 12 from Colombia, reported on Tuesday the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro.

The President reported the unfortunate death of a 65-year-old patient, a resident of the La Vega parish in the city of Caracas, who was diagnosed with the disease on May 23. The mortality rate amounts to 11 deaths in the country.

During the assessment of the strategies implemented by the National Executive to combat COVID-19, the Head of State reiterated that Venezuela continues to be at the forefront with mass screening tests that already total 865,367 tests, representing 28,846 per million population.

Regarding the migratory wave of compatriots who have returned to the country, he pointed out that a total of 50,210 Venezuelans have entered, of whom 29,980 have crossed the border through the Táchira state, 5,581 through Zulia, 2,133 through Apure and 109 through Amazonas.

Regarding humanitarian flights, a total of 300 people have arrived at the Simón Bolívar International Airport, in La Guaira state, and 90 in Lara state.

According to the Dignitary’s statements, 80% of the cases registered in the last days in Venezuela belong to international contact: 476 are cases from Colombia, 126 from Brazil, 49 from Peru and 36 from Ecuador.

Global Context

The United States reports 1,725,168 infections and a mortality rate that amounts to 100,540 deaths, so far being the epicenter of the pandemic.

In South America, Brazil is positioned as the main source of contagion with 391,222 infected people and 24,512 deaths, as a result of Jair Bolsonaro’s social neglect.

For its part, Peru registers 129,751 infections and a mortality rate of 3,788, followed by Chile, which to date has 77,961 affected and 806 deaths, while Colombia reports 23,003 infections and 776 deaths.
