The WFTU stands on the side of Ethiopian people

Aid organizations have halted humanitarian efforts following the latest air raid in Ethiopia’s Tigray region. The strike reportedly killed civilians in a camp for displaced people. The halting of aid operations  in Tigray follows the famine, of July 2021. It is no coincidence that the region is one of the most powerful industrial centers of a country rich in agricultural products and other natural resources. The conflicts that affect the lives of thousands of workers in the region result from the competitions over which monopolies will exploit the country’s wealth-producing resources for their profits. At the same time, the population of around 110 million people are among the poorest in the world, deprived of their right to a dignified living and work. The workers and the people of Ethiopia are the ones who must enjoy the wealth of their country to cover all of their contemporary needs. The WFTU supports the workers and ordinary people of Ethiopia and calls upon them to organize their struggle to protect and improve their lives and the lives of their families. The World Federation of Trade Unions strongly believes that the resources of each country are belonging to the peoples. We call the peoples of the country and all the trade union organizations of the world to intensify their struggle against imperialistic interventions for a world without exploitation, for a world where the workers will be the real owners of the land and its resources.
