The SACP in Mpumalanga Province denounces the barbaric shooting and shameless killing of protesting municipal workers by a private security company in Steve Tshwete Local Municipality on Wednesday, 17 August 2022.
“We express our sincere condolences with the families whose loved ones have been killed and we wish a speedy recovery to those who have been injured”, said Bonakele Majuba, SACP Mpumalanga Provincial Secretary.
The barbaric actions indicate there are those who think they are above the law. They think they can do as they please.
Deadlock on issues must be resolved through engagements. Employers must not resort to killing workers and violating their constitutional rights.
The SACP will not rest until workers are treated with dignity and all criminals are removed from hiding in municipalities. Those responsible for the killing of workers and violating their constitutional rights must be held accountable. No stone must be left unturned in pursuit of justice. Those responsible for the killings must be suspended with immediate effect until justice has served its course.
The SACP urges workers to unite and continue to demand what is due to them in a disciplined and peaceful manner.
