WFTU solidarity statement with truck drivers in Republic of Korea

The World Federation of Trade Unions, on behalf of its 105 million workers who live, work and struggle in 130 countries of the 5 continents, expresses its internationalist solidarity with the truck drivers in the Republic of Korea who are struggling for the most fundamental working and trade union rights.  It is estimated that 9 out of 10 of the truck drivers are dependently employed by the companies in which they are working, but they are not recognized as employees by the country’s labour law. Consequently, they are shouldered the operational costs of the truck they drive, and at the same time they are deprived of the right of association, they cannot collectively bargain and they are not covered by any provision of minimum wage and working time limits.
